Failing that, he tells is that he will discuss the efficacy of using marine invertebrates to consume human remains. This work shop is a first for Thunder and as Scott describes it, is “about as subtle as a freight train” and is guaranteed way to make the tough, hardened bottom a little more pliable, compliant, and soggy. Scott will run you through both the physical and psychological aspects of this very edgy scene. And, in case you think he has gone completely over the edge, you just have to remember: Dick Cheney says it’s not torture. So we’re good!

The question was asked on FetLife about setting up a safety system for rapidly – and safely – releasing a bottom from suspension. You can see the original thread here.

There are two ways that I typically show in my suspension classes:

One is the use of a full load quick disconnect with an appropriate load rating and safety factor (5:1 min, >15:1 typical). Please don’t use typical “panic snaps” unless you really like paperwork.

The other is a bit simpler, and decreases the chance of PE becoming KE inadvertently. Insuring all components are appropriately rated, use a single hard point which is itself on a belay – making it a “suspended” hard point (to see this in rescue setups you can search for proof ring, beener plate, rigging plate, etc.) I frequently use a ‘rescue 8′ or a ‘fall arrest beener’. The intricate suspension (and harness) is they tied to the single “suspended” hard-point. Should it be necessary, the hard-point can be lowered.

An easy way to setup the belay is to run the belay line through a pulley or other appropriate redirection device (directly above the proof ring) and then off to the side where it is wrapped around a 4×4 (or other friction device) several times (look up “no knot knot”).

If you need to lower them, simply belay them, and the rigging, down to the floor.

As much as possible, try to keep your belay line linear (+/- 15 deg) to the belay device. Said another way, perpendicular to whatever you are wrapping it around.
